Most people would tell you today that being a famous, multi-Platinum, multi-million-dollar rap and hip-hop artist would be the true picture of success. And for Mason Betha, that’s what success once meant to him.
Raised in the ghetto of Harlem, New York, Mason always dreamed of something better. And at a young age he capitalized on his unique musical talents, which eventually shot him straight to the top of the Hip Hop world.
Yet after hearing God calling him to full-time ministry on April 4, 1999, Mason left the industry—even though he was at the height of his music career. That same day Mason began devoting his life to helping others embrace the truth from 1 John 5:4 that they are “overcomers” through the power of the Holy Spirit—regardless of where they’ve come from or what they’ve done. Mason is truly a living example of what it means to abandon it all for the sake of the cross!
Today, Mason is the pastor of El Elyon International Church, which currently has a membership of over 3,000 members on campuses in Atlanta, GA and Phoenix, AZ. Mason is also the president and co-founder of the church’s worldwide ministry called Born to Succeed, which is making a difference in the lives of millions of people around the globe.
Mason is known for firing up a church unlike any other preacher, and he regularly teaches in churches, colleges, and conferences, sharing the truth of God’s love and how to live a successful life through Christ.
Mason preaches with a true sense of urgency because he knows how empty a life of chasing the temporal things is. He also knows that believers cannot be the “overcomers” that God has ordained them to be without Jesus Christ leading every aspect of life. Mason’s message is simple: Any definition of success is worthless if Jesus isn’t King of your heart and attitude!
Mason has received two honorary doctorate degrees, including an Honorary Doctorate of Theology from St. Paul’s Bible Institute in New York, NY. He and his wife, Twyla, co-founder of El Elyon and Born to Succeed, and they have two young sons.
